While our elected officials here in Toronto are out scouring the streets for bike lanes to remove and library branches to shut down, the idea of the accordion suddenly becomes comforting.

So I brought it into the room that has the air conditioner, set up the music stand, and consoled myself with a little French waltz.

I was trying to channel Joan Holloway playing "C'est Magnifique" on that episode of Mad Men -- sans the singing, of course.

The I Ching says it all:

Heaven and earth are out of communion and all things are benumbed. What is above has no relation to what is below, and on earth confusion and disorder prevail.
